Performance Test

The performance test will help determine if the air conditioning system is operating within specifications.
  1. 1
    Connect the gauges as shown.
Manifold gauge set (both valves closed) connected to the A/C system for the performance test. A magnified inset shows the commercially available attachment fitting connected to the high-pressure gauge hose (incorrect fitting crossed out). Leader lines label the low and high pressure valves (Close) and the attachment.
  2. 2
Insert a thermometer in the vent outlet. Determine the relative humidity and ambient air temperature by a portable weather station or calling the local weather station.
  3. 3
    Test conditions:
  4. 4
After running the air conditioning for 10 minutes under the above test conditions, read the delivery temperature from the thermometer in the dash vent and the high and low system pressure from the A/C gauges.
  5. 5
    To complete the charts:
Performance test charts. Upper chart plots delivery pressure (kPa) vs intake temperature with 30%, 60% and 90% humidity curves. Lower chart plots delivery temperature (°C) and intake pressure (psi/kPa) vs intake temperature (°C and °F) with 30%, 60% and 90% humidity curves.
