Engine Tune-up — Ignition Timing Inspection and Setting (cont'd)

5-12prose procedure

Ignition timing varies by engine and market: SOHC With CATA 18° BTDC @ 750 rpm, SOHC Without CATA 18° BTDC @ 780 rpm, DOHC except KQ 16° BTDC @ 800 rpm, DOHC KQ 16° BTDC @ 750 rpm. Timing is read against the RED mark on the crankshaft pulley.

Ignition Timing Inspection and Setting (cont'd)

  1. 4
Adjust ignition timing, if necessary, to the following specifications:
Timing marks at the crankshaft pulley showing the POINTERS, the WHITE MARK and the RED MARK on the CRANKSHAFT PULLEY used to read ignition timing with a timing light.
  2. 5
Adjust as necessary by loosening the distributor adjusting bolts, and turn the distributor housing counterclockwise to advance the timing, or clockwise to retard the timing.
Distributor showing the ADJUSTING BOLTS and rotation arrows: TO ADVANCE (counterclockwise) and TO RETARD (clockwise) the timing.
  3. 6
Tighten the adjusting bolts and recheck the timing.
  4. 7
Remove the jumper wire and install the rubber cap to the ignition timing adjusting connector.
Ignition Timing — 1.6 ℓ SOHC (With CATA)
18° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 750 ± 50 min⁻¹ (rpm) in neutral
Ignition Timing — 1.6 ℓ SOHC (Without CATA)
18° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 780 ± 50 min⁻¹ (rpm) in neutral
Ignition Timing — 1.6 ℓ DOHC (EX. KQ model)
16° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 800 ± 50 min⁻¹ (rpm) in neutral
Ignition Timing — 1.6 ℓ DOHC (KQ model)
16° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 750 ± 50 min⁻¹ (rpm) in neutral
