Engine Tune-up

5-2prose procedure

Radiator coolant refill capacity differs between 1.6 L DOHC (D16A8/A9) and 1.6 L SOHC (D16A6/A7) engines.

Radiator Cap Testing

  1. 1
Remove the radiator cap, wet its seal with coolant, then install it on the pressure tester.
Hands holding a radiator cap attached to a pressure tester with a round pressure gauge, used to pressure-test the radiator cap.
  2. 2
    Apply pressure of 74-103 kPa (0.75-1.05 kg/cm2, 11-15 psi).
  3. 3
Check for a drop in pressure.
  4. 4
If there is a drop in pressure, replace the cap.

Coolant Level Inspection

  1. 1
Check whether the coolant level in the coolant reservoir tank is between "MAX" and "MIN".
Coolant reservoir tank showing the UPPER LEVEL marked MAX and the LOWER LEVEL marked MIN.
  2. 2
Supply the coolant reservoir tank with coolant to "MAX", if the coolant level is lower than "MIN" or near to "MIX".
Use only HONDA RECOMMENDED anti-freeze / coolant.
For best corrosion protection, the coolant concentration must be maintained year-round at 50% MINIMUM. Coolant concentrations less than 50% may not provide sufficient protection against corrosion or freezing.
Coolant concentrations greater than 60% will impair cooling efficiency and are not recommended.
  3. 3
    See page 5-59 for refilling.
