Cooling Fan System - Coolant Temperature Switch Test / Relay Test
16-68prose procedureCoolant Temperature Switch Test
- 1Remove the coolant temperature switch from the rear of the engine cylinder block.
- 2Suspend the coolant temperature switch in a container of coolant as shown.

- 3Heat the coolant and check coolant temperature with a thermometer (see table below).
- 4Check for continuity between the A and B terminals according to the table.
Above
Temperature Value88.5-91.5°C (191-197°F)
Continuity between A and B terminalsContinuity (A—B)
Below
Temperature Value83.5-86.5°C (182-188°F)
Continuity between A and B terminalsNo continuity
Relay Test
- 1Remove the radiator fan relay on the right front inner fender or condenser fan relay on the right front bulkhead.
- 2There should be continuity between the A and B terminals when the battery in connected to the C and D terminals. There should be no continuity when the battery is disconnected.
